Free Vintage Knitting Pattern – Ladies Scarf, Cap and Gloves WW2 Copley’s 1407

Year/ Decade – from the little helmet the logo character is wearing, this is a WW2 pattern, however unlike the small size of the many Bestway patterns I have, this was printed on bigger paper. This makes me think it is from 1939, 1940 or 1941 rather than the later years of the war, when shortages would have been greater leading to it being printed on smaller paper. However, it mentions coupons on page 3, which were introduced in the UK in 1941.

Yarn Size – 4 ply

In the picture it looks textured, but from reading the suggested materials it is also multicolored.

  1. This is a lovely set and I’m tempted to have a go. I would suggest though that these days we would be better to use DK rather than 4 ply. . I say this because the tension (51/2 stitches to the inch on size 8 or metric 4 mm) is exactly the same as that given in most modern DK patterns, although it’s normally expressed as 22 stitches to 4 inches or 10 cms.
