Sew for Victory – Beginning and Pinspiration

I’m taking part in a vintage fashion sewing challenge from Rochelle of Lucky Lucille blog, to make something 40s style between  March 15th 2014 and 30th April 2014. Have a look yourself at The challenge allows for new and vintage patterns with a forties style, that can cover some late 30s and early 50s patterns too.

I already had a Pinterest board dedicated to every decade from the 20s – 90s. Here is the 1940s one.

I also already have a few reproduction patterns and one real  vintage forties one. My first choice for the challenge is the Blitz Dress from a new UK company run by another lady called Caroline, Sew-La-De-Da Vintage. Here is a picture from the website:

I have two fabrics in my stash from Liberty. One was in a sale recently and the other I bought at full price several years ago, without knowing what pattern I was going to make with it. First I’m going to make a muslin out of an old Primark sheet. Then the sale one (bottom pic) will be my first try and if that works, I’ll use my more expensive fabric (top pic). This flower button print was a seasonal design from a past collection, so Liberty Art Fabrics aren’t producing it anymore and I absolutely love it.
